Marmaris - Before The Invasion

Marmaris is an important port and tourist destination on the Mediterranean  coast of Turkey and its only 70 km. away from Datca..Yesterday we were there to run some errands...It was so peaceful and quiet before the invasion of tourists couple weeks later.. It is quite the favorite of Bristish and the Russians....

Marmaris Akdeniz kıyısındaki önemli turizm merkezlerimizden biri ve Datça'dan sadece 70 km uzaklıkta yer alıyor..Dün bir takım işlerimizi halletmek için oradaydık ve Marmaris kalabalıkların bir kaç hafta sonraki istilasından önce son derece huzurlu ve sessizdi..İngiliz ve Rus turistler çok yakında şehri istila edecekler...

Knidos Light House

Yesterday's mission was to climb the Knidos Light House..My dear cousin Eda and her fiance Emrah were with us.. This light house constructed in 1931 at the farmost point of Anatolia towards the Mediterranean Sea and also at the border between Mediterranean and Aegean Seas..

Dünkü görevimiz Knidos fenerine tırmanmaktı. Sevgili kuzenim Eda ve nişanlısı Emrah bizimle birlikteydi. 1931 yılında inşa edilen fener, Anadolu'nun Akdeniz'e uzanan en uç noktasında yer almakta, aynı zamanda Akdeniz ve Ege Denizi arasındaki sınır noktasını oluşturmaktadır..

It was a pretty hot day and we started to ascend slowly leaving the ancient city of Knidos below us..

Oldukça sıcak bir gündü ve Knidos antik kentini aşağılarda bırakarak yavaşça yükselmeye başladık..

It was great to see the boats still using the entrance of the antique harbour..

Antik limanın hala teknelerce kullanıldığını görmek harikaydı..

We climbed more but it was still far away...

Biraz daha tırmandık ama hedef hala oldukça uzakta görünüyordu..

Wild goats were watching this crew with great interest..

Yabani keçiler bizi ilgi ile izliyorlardı..

Finally the mission was accomplished and as usual celebratory photos were taken..

Sonunda görev tamamlandı ve adet olduğu üzere bol bol fotoğraf çektirildi...

Some wine, sandwich and plums to rest and enjoy the magnificent view where the waters after Mediterranean and Aegean were mingling with each other..

Sandviçlerin yanında biraz şarap ve erik dinlenmek ve Akdeniz ve Ege'nin sularının birbiriyle oynaştığı muhteşem manzaranın keyfini çıkarmak için yeterliydi..

Coming down is always harder than going up but a cooling rest was waiting us at the steps of the Knidos theatre..

Aşağı inmek, yukarı çıkmaktan her zaman daha zor oluyor ama antik Knidos tiyatrosunun merdivenleri dinlenmek ve serinlemek için bizi bekliyordu..

Byblos - Lebanon

If you have very limited time to spend in Lebanon, Byblos should be the place for you to visit. Located on the Mediterranean coast 42 km. north of Beirut, this beautiful town has it all...History, sea, sunshine, shopping, eating and relaxing...

It is founded around 5000 BC and believed by many to be the oldest continuously inhabited city..

Eğer Lübnan'da geçirecek zamanınız azsa, Biblos mutlaka ziyaret etmeniz gereken yer olmalı. Beyrut'un 42 km kuzeyinde yer alan bu güzel Akdeniz kenti herşeye sahip. Tarih, deniz, güneş, alışveriş, güzel yemekler..


MÖ 5000 yıllarında kurulduğu düşünülen şehir, pek çoklarınca üzerinde sürekli yerleşim olmuş en eski kent olarak kabul ediliyor..

It is also amazing to learn that the cedar trees used in the construction of the pyramids in Egypt had been sold from here by Phoenician merchants..
It's small port dated to the Roman period is still welcoming small boats...

Mısır piramitlerinin inşasında kullanılan sedir ağaçlarının buradan Fenikeli tüccarlar tarafından gönderildiğini öğrenmek şaşırtıcıydı. Roma döneminden kalma küçük limanı ise ufak tekneler hala hizmet veriyor.

The place to eat in Byblos is the famous Pepe's Fishing Club .In its hey day Pepe's was a major celebrity hang out and faded black and white photos of Bridget Bardot and Frank Sinatra on the walls are a reminder of the golden days of Lebanon.

Although the shrimps I ate made me spent most of the night at the bathroom, it is still a very good place to go. Fantastic view, good service but just pick carefully..

Biblos'da yemek yenecek yer Pepe's Fishing Club. En parlak döneminde ünlülerin uğrak yeri olan restoranda, duvarlara asılı siyah beyaz resimlerin arasında Bridget Bardot ve Frank Sinatra gibi sanatçıları görmek, Lübnan'ın altın çağına bir gönderme yapıyor.


Benim yediğim jumbo karidesler, gecenin büyük kısmını tuvalette geçirmeme neden olduysa da, muhteşem konumu, özenli servisi nedeniyle hala gitmenizi tavsiye ederim. Sadece yediklerinizi biraz dikkatli seçin..

Aegean Sea...

Our small peninsula is located between the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas.. While the Datca center and almost all the villages are located on the Mediterranean side, Aegean side is mostly uninhabitant...So its a perfect place if you are looking for peace and quiet...

Bizim küçük yarımadamız, Ege ve Akdeniz'in arasında yer alır. Datça merkez ve çoğu köyler Akdeniz tarafında yer alırken, Ege Denizi tarafı ikametin çok az olduğu kısımdır.Dolayısıyla biraz sessizlik ve huzur arıyorsanız, işte tam da gitmeniz gereken yer...

While summer is mostly a dry season, spring is the perfect time to enjoy the flowers on the beach..

Of course we are not the only ones here on this beautiful Sunday.. Here is Hera's best friend Barbecue and our neighbours..They are cycling all the way from home. I have to admit that we are rather lazy, we came by car..

Bu Pazar günü bu güzelliklerin keyfini çıkarmaya gelen yalnızca bizler değildik.. İşte Hera'nın en iyi arkadaşı Mangal ve komşularımız. Onlar evden buraya bisikletle gelmişler. Ancak biz oldukça tembel davranarak araba ile geldik...

and here is an old friend of ours. She and her owner brings delicious figs to us every summer..It was such a surprise to see her here...
