Kargı Beach - Datca

Kargı is a small bay and beach very close to the center of Datca. Yesterday we stopped there for a quick lunch. Lunch being frencgh fries and cold beer..

Kargı, Datça merkeze çok yakın ufak bir koy ve plaj. Dün kısa bir öğle yemeği için oradaydık. Öğle yemeği derken çok bir şey beklemeyin. Patates kızartması ve buz gibi bira..

Ducks, cats and a big dog sleeping nearby were peacefully hanging together at the beach.  Although  they were hungry, they did not bother to fight and intimidate each other for the small pieces given to them by the human visitors. I think the peaceful and calm atmosphere of Datca during winter time affects all the living beings..Like our Hera almost all the dogs are leash free here during this time of the year. We tend to restrict them when the city folks who are afraid of dogs come here for their summer vacation. I really love this time of the year..

Ördekler, kediler ve biraz ileride uyuklayan kocaman bir köpek sahilde hep beraber takılıyorlardı. Aç olmalarına rağmen kendilerine verilen mamalar için ne birbirleriyle kavga ettiler, ne itişip kakıştılar. Sanırım Datça'nın bu zamanlardaki sakin ve huzurlu atmosferi tüm canlıları etkiliyor. Tıpkı bizim Hera gibi Datça'daki köpeklerin hemen hemen hepsi bu mevsim tasmasız mutlu mesut kafalarına göre takılırlar. Ancak yaz gelip köpekten korkan şehirliler buralara yaz tatiline geldiğinde onları kısıtlamaya başlarız. Yılın bu zamanını gerçekten çok seviyorum...

Later came two members of the Datca swimming club. Mr Emin Bolu told us that he and his wife are swimming everyday..Mr Bolu is 65 and is working to compete for a Guiness World record at his age group in open sea swimming. He is swimming at an avarage of 120 km. every month. Amazing isnt it..

Bizim yemeğimiz bitmeye yakın Datça yüzme klübünün iki üyesi sahile geldi. Emin Bolu, eşi ile birlikte yaz kış fark etmez her gün mutlaka yüzerlermiş.  65 yaşında olan Emin Bey, kendi yaş grubunda açık deniz yüzme dalında Guieness Rekorlar Kitabına girmek için çalişıyormuş. Ayda ortalama 120 km yüzdüğünü söyledi. İnanılmaz değil mi?? 

Ouarzazate - Morocco

Ouarzazate, the former garrison town of the French Foreign Legion founded in 1928 on a strategic route between the mountains and the deserts of Morocco..

After spending couple days in the busy and narrow streets of Fes and Marrakech, the peaceful atmosphere of this small town is such a welcoming change..

On the way to Ouarzazate we stopped at ait Benhaddou, a Unesco World Heritage site. The impressive kasbah of Ait Benhaddou used in many films.

1928 yılında Fransız yabancılar lejyonuna garnizon kent olarak kurulan Ouarzazate, Fas'da çöller ve dağları birleştiren yol üzerinde stratejik bir noktada yer alıyor..
Fez ve Marakeş'in daracık ve kalabalık sokaklarında geçirilen bir kaç günden sonra, bu kentin huzurlu ve sakin atmosferi harika bir değişiklik oluyor.
Ourzazate'ye giderken yolda Unesco Dünya Mirası listesinde de yer alan ve pek çok filmin çekildiği muhteşem Ait Benhaddou kasbah'ında duruyoruz..

For a century so many films have been shot in this region. The recent ones include Bernardo Bertolucci's 1990 film of The Sheltering Sky and Martin Scorcoses's 1997 film of Kundun. Scenery of the surrounding mountains reminds me so much of Tibet so its been no surprise that Kundun has been filmed here..

The dilemma of the town is its heavy reliance on film industry and tourism. So many hotels were built in the past but as offering location to films is not a regular business and by not being on the mass tourism route of Morocco, so many of them were closed and left to decay.

Son yüzyılda bu bölgede çok fazla film çekilmiş. En çok bilinenlerden, en yeniler 1990 tarihli Bernardo Bertolucci'nin The Sheltering Sky'ı ve Martin Scorcosese'nin 1997 tarihli Kundun'u..Bölgeyi çevreleyen dağlar bana o kadar çok Tibet'i hatırlattı ki Kundun'un burada çekildiğine şaşmamak gerek..
Ancak bu şehrin ikilemi film ve turizm endüstrilerine çok fazla bağımlı oluşu. Geçmişte çok fazla otel inşa edilmiş ancak filmlere lokasyon sağlamak düzenli bir iş olmadığından ve kent Fas'daki kitle turizmi yolları dışında kaldığı için pek çoğu kapanmış  ve çürümeye terk edilmiş..

One day is more than enough for this town. Apart from visiting Taourirt Kasbah inside the town, Ait Benhaddou which is 30 km out of town is a must see site. If you are a film freak you could also visit the Atlas and CLA film studios..

Burası için bir gün kesinlikle yeterli. Şehrin içindeki Taourirt Kasbah dışında, 30 km dışındaki Ait Benhaddou mutlaka görülmeli..Birde eğer filmlere çok meraklıysanız, burada bulunan Atlas ve CLA fim stüdyolarını gezebilirsiniz..

February Stroll

If it is 19 C with bright sunshine and no wind , its time for small excursions.. This morning we went to a small bay on the Aegean side of our small peninsula. It's called Çatı and its a resting point for fishermen...It's beautiful in every season...Dont tell Hera that I cheated her...

Eğer sıcaklık 19 dereceye ulaştıysa, havada pırıl pırıl bir güneş var ve rüzgar yoksa, küçük gezintilere çıkmanın zamanı gelmiştir. Bu sabah yarımadanın Ege Denizi tarafında kalan Çatı'ya gittik. Aynı zamanda balıkçı barınağı olarakta kullanılan bu koy yaz, kış, ilkbahar, sonbahar her mevsim ayrı bir güzel... Bu arada sakın Hera'ya onu aldattığımı söylemeyin...

Marrakech

Marrakech is the jewel of the Moroccan tourism crown. However compare to my visit of 12 years ago, it was definitely become too touristic.

The stores selling cheap trinkets and goods invaded the buildings around the famous Jemaa el-Fna place and everything is expensive compare to the other parts of the country and the tailor made answer for your complaints is ''well, this is Marrakech..''  A Moroccan trip without Marrakech is not complete but if you are searching for the more authentic Morocco, this is definitely not the place to go..

Marakeş Fas turizminin göz bebeği, ancak 12 yıl önceki ziyaretime göre kesinlikle çok daha fazla turistik bir yer haline gelmiş. Ünlü Camiü'l-Fena meydanının etrafı ucuz vırtı zırtı satan dükkanlarla çevrelenmiş ve Marakeş ülkenin diğer yerlerine oranla çok daha pahalı bir yer olmuş. Bu şikayetlere verilen hazır cevap ise '' Burası Marakeş'' oluyor. Marakeşe gidilmeden yapılan bir Fas seyahati tamamlanmış sayılmasa da daha otantik bir Fas arıyorsanız, Marakeş'de doğru yerde değilsiniz diyorum..

A city founded in 1062, Marrakech has so much history to offer. As in the other major cities we stayed in a Riad close to the Jemaa el-Fna place. 

1062 yılında kurulmuş bir şehir olarak, Marakeş'in çok zengin bir tarihi var. Bütün diğer büyük şehirlerde olduğu gibi burada da eski şehirde otele dönüştürülmüş eski bir Fas evinde kaldık.

Jemaa el-Fna is the place where you could find all the activity. It is practically an open air show where you could find musicians, dancers, story tellers, snake charmers, monkey handlers, fortune tellers, tooth pullers etc. When the night approaches smoke from the grilling meats on the food stalls fills the air and a dinner in one of these small open-air restaurants is a must in Marrakech.

Cemaü'l-Fena meydanı şehirdeki bütün hareketi bulabileceğiniz bir yer. Aslında müzisyenleri, dansçıları, hikaye anlatıcıları, yılan oynatıcıları, maymunlu adamları, falcıları, diş çekenleri ile bir açık hava şovu burası. Gece yaklaşırken ise küçük tezgahlarda kızartılan etlerin dumanı ve iştah açan kokusu tüm meydanı doldurur ve bu açık hava lokantalarından birinde yemek yemek Marakeş'te mutlaka yapmanız gereken bir şeydir..

A part from our long walks in the old city we also went to the new part of the town to visit Majorelle Gardens and admired its great succulents collection.

Eski şehirdeki uzun yürüyüşlerimiz dışında, şehrin yeni kısmına gidip ünlü Majorelle Bahçelerini de ziyaret ettik ve muhteşem kaktüs koleksiyonuna hayran kaldık.

If you go to Majorelle Gardens dont forget to stop at the shop 33 Rue de Majorelle right across the entrance of the gardens where you could find great products of modernized versions of the traditional Moroccan goods. Another shopping tip for Marrakech is Ensemble Artisanal shops located on the Avenue Mohammed V. if you are looking for a bargain free shopping with decent prices and large quantity of goods, its the place to go..
