Now tell me is this blog getting more nasty or not ??? Couple weeks ago I had posted some giant penises from Bhutan, and today here are some naked ladies from Sri Lanka.
Thru out all my travels I mostly see religious paintings in the caves and on the rocks, so these ladies were such a nice surprise to find on one of the most astonishing ancient sites in Sri Lanka.
However, to see these ladies is not so easy. You have to climb a big rock of 370 metres to see them. The place is called Sigiria - Lion's rock.
On top of this rock there are the ruins of palaces and gardens which used to be the hiding place of a king who was afraid of his brother. The brother was the rightful heir of the throne while our king was not. History is full of similar stories. The end of our king came at the inevitable battle with the brother. He committed suicide. The brother - the new king turned this palace to a monastry and wiped out most of the ladies not the disturb the meditation. So out of the 500, very few of them reached to our time.
What an incredible site - the rock - the entrance - and the beautiful paintings - You have seen, and shared here, the most amazing things from your travels. I must admit the penises drawn on housefronts was one of the most startling!
ReplyDeleteYes, I understand how the monks might be distracted from meditation by the sight of all those full breasts!
ReplyDeletewow, this is a place i'd love to see..love
ReplyDeletethe claws at the entrance!
Very cool pictures! I love how traveling makes you think in different ways and opens your mind. I've been to many places, but not to Sri Lanka or India, so fortunately I have more things to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this!
There is nothing nasty about nudity - it was the natural state of being before we changed that and then believed ourselves. These are exquisite cave paintings. As always, intriguing and fascinating. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteNevine
I have chills, I just clicked on your post listening to Pandora and DURAN DURAN's "save a prayer" came on which the video was shot in Sri Lanka....so cool!
ReplyDeleteJust stunning, what a fascinating story about the King and his brother. This is definitely something I would love to see..beautiful!!

Fascinating.....and inspiring! I love seeing the goddess, especially paintings so ancient. The freshness and lack of modesty is also inspiring! I'm going to go do some goddess painting...........
ReplyDeleteVery artistic paintings of naked ladies, I think I would like to see the Lion cave someday.
ReplyDeleteIncredible... I've heard of this place - Sigiria, Pollanaruva and one more. Its 3 places that form a group. Guess u must have visited all 3.
ReplyDeleteGuess these were painted during during King Asoka period in India. This is too starkingly similar to Ajanta Painting in India...

ReplyDeleteVery nice photographs. Those paintings are interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think those paintings are lovely! You always come up with the best, most interesting topics, Aysegul. What fascinates me most about today's photos here are the giant paws at the base of the stairway, just like those at the sphinx. Very cool!
ReplyDeleteThat's just gorgeous, such a fascination with the breasts (some things never change!). I must say, though, to me it's the fabulous feet that make it really interesting. Well, that and the history.
